In the Book of Esther, a story about a Jewish girl named Esther, a plot to destroy all Jews was arranged. It was planned to go off successfully on the day of the Feast of Purim. But the King, Ahasuerus, who was also known as Xerxes, found out about the plot and ordered that all those who were involved in the plot be executed. In response to this order, Esther asked for four days to find those being executed and deliver their lives from death. She wanted those four days for herself and her people to celebrate the festival. When her request was granted, she spent those days in worship and celebration before returning to her people and telling them what had happened. The Feast of Purim is celebrated at this time of year because it is said that Esther’s quick thinking and faith in God (and also her courage!) saved her people from such a horrible fate.

She brought joy to an entire nation through her actions. If you want to bring joy into your own life, then try setting aside some time every day at around this time of year to celebrate with family and friends. You can do it by going outside and enjoying nature or by listening to music and singing together. Or you can literally sing songs of praise and worship: “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills; from whence shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).
